The Redeemable Loan of 1955 at 5% was a loan issued by the Italian state to finance the public debt. The main objective was to raise funds to cover state expenses and manage the country's debt.

Description

The loan consisted of bearer folders with a fixed interest rate of 5%. The folders were available in different denominations, ranging from LIT 100 to LIT 20,000, to allow individuals and legal entities to invest according to their financial means.

The design of the folders was created by the artist Canfarini . The image in the top centre represented Italia Elmata, a symbolic personification of Italy. This female figure often represents Italy as a nation and represents values such as beauty, strength and dignity.

In addition, the folders also featured a watermark depicting two-faced Janus. Janus was a Roman deity associated with doors, transitions and beginnings. The representation of two-faced Janus, with two faces looking in opposite directions, symbolises the past and the future, or the duality of choices and possibilities.

The Redeemable Loan of 1955 at 5% offered investors the opportunity to contribute to the financing of Italy's public debt and at the same time obtain a fixed return on investment. This type of loan was a way for the state to raise funds on the market and manage sovereign debt.
