Description

Perugina is a food brand owned by the Nestlé group. Born in 1907 in Perugia as an artisan laboratory specializing in the production of chocolate, it became a national and international company under the management of the Buitoni family, which developed highly successful products such as, for example, the well-known Bacio and the Rossana candy.

Merged in 1968 with the family company of the same name to form the IBP-Industrie Buitoni Perugina group, it was involved in the crisis in the food sector of the seventies from which it left in 1985 with the sale to the CIR group of Carlo De Benedetti; however political maneuvers extraneous to the group prevented the latter from consolidating its presence in the consumer food sector and, in 1988, the PGI was sold to the Swiss multinational Nestlé which has only owned the Perugina brand since 2008, having sold Buitoni on that date .

The registered office of Perugina has been in Milan since 1988, but the production plants and the Chocolate School are located in Perugia.
