The consortium was established in 1893 by the municipalities of Tortona and Castelnuovo Scrivia to build and operate a standard-gauge economy railway between the two Piedmontese towns. The line was inaugurated as early as 1895 and by 1903 was running five pairs of trips per day, covering the route in 25 minutes. In 1914, the consortium decided to hand over ownership and operation of the railway to the Società Anonima delle Tramvie a Vapore della Provincia di Alessandria. However, in 1933, the line - no longer able to meet the needs of the local population - was abolished and replaced by a bus service.
The bond issued by the consortium to raise the necessary funds for the venture consisted of only 510 bonds and was guaranteed by the two municipalities involved.

Description

The bonds were issued on 30 April 1913 in Tortona and were printed by the Carte Valori Rebeschini di Turati & C. workshops in Milan. These documents featured splendid graphics, with an image of an antique locomotive located at the bottom centre of the bond.
