Description

The text tells the story of the city of Corato, located in Puglia. The area has been inhabited since the late Bronze Age, as demonstrated by archaeological finds. In the 3rd century BC, during the Republican period of Rome, Scipio Africanus granted the territory to a Roman patrician named Caius Oratus, who built a village and named it Corato. The city has undergone many invasions, including those of the Visigoths of Alaric and the Saracens. In 1046, Peter the Norman officially founded the city, building four towers and their walls. The city then came under the rule of the Bourbons and the Carafa family, dukes of Andria and counts of Ruvo. In modern times, Corato has experienced great economic and building growth. Finally, in 2006, the majority of the citizens rejected the entry into the new province of Barletta-Andria-Trani.
