Title of a portfolio to bearer from Lire 500. yielding 4% annual interest. The effigy of St. Paul stands out at the top. In 1563 some citizens of Turin founded the Compagnia della Fede Cattolica under the Invocation of Saint Paul, in order to rescue the population burdened by poverty and to stem the expansion of Protestantism. In 1579 the congregation obtained authorization from Pope Gregorio XIII (1502-1585) and from Emanuele Filiberto I (1528-1580), duke of Savoy and prince of Piedmont, to constitute a real Monte citizen to practice banking to all intents and purposes, including land credit only from 1867.

Description

After various historical events in 1927 the bank took on the name of the San Paolo Institute of Turin - Charity and Credit and its main shareholder remained the ancient religious confraternity Compagnia di San Paolo, which later became the banking foundation. Always of the utmost importance for the Piedmontese economic fabric, the change in the denomination to the San Paolo Bank of Turin sanctioned the definitive transition from a bank mainly a collector of savings to a real commercial bank. After a rich history of expansions throughout Italy and abroad, it merged in 1998 with the Italian Mobiliare Institute - IMI to give life to Sanpaolo IMI, since 2007 Intesa Sanpaolo Group.
