The capital of the company, incorporated in 1841, was divided into 170 shares subsequently increased to 200. The bridge was opened for business on November 20, 1843. In 1889 the company name changed into the anonymous company of the bridge over the Arno in Figline.
Originally the bridges were built by the rulers and the collection of the toll was a source of income for the Treasury. Towards the beginning of the nineteenth century the construction and management of the bridges were given in concession to private companies.
