Another initiative was the establishment of the Navigation Company for Refrigerated Transport 'La Polare', which used the refrigerated ship Resurrection. This experience was also short-lived, as the ship was requisitioned by the Board of Trade to transport meat for the allied troops.
The third venture in which Gondrand-Mangili was involved was the establishment of the 'Ice Palace' Limited Company in 1923. This company was responsible for the construction and operation of a skating rink in Milan, near Porta Vittoria, on land owned by Gondrand-Mangili itself. The skating rink was inaugurated in 1924.
In addition to the development and organisation of the company, Gondrand showed a strong interest in innovation. In 1925, he filed a patent for overlapping car loads, anticipating the solutions that would later be developed with the use of containers. Moreover, already at that time, the Gondrand company was using demountable and recoverable packaging to transport cars to the British market.
Thanks to his many successful business ventures, Gondrand was awarded various distinctions, such as the French Legion of Honour, the Grand Cross of the Order of the Crown of Italy, and the appointment as Knight of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus. Giovanni Gondrand died in Milan in the autumn of 1926, leaving behind a considerable entrepreneurial legacy.
